Citrine is regarded as The Merchant’s Stone, and is said to attract cash flow, wealth, success and good fortune to the wearer. It also encourages generosity and sharing good fortune.
Citrine is a quartz crystal variety, so like all quartz, is a strong amplifier of energy. They have within them the vibration of Citrine Crystals, which is the energy of the solar plexus chakra and the 'will'.
Ancient Greeks and Romans used citrine in their jewellery, some of which were in the form of intricate intaglio work.
Citrine increased in popularity in the Art Deco period (1920’s-1940’s), with many prominent Hollywood starlets adopting the trend, including Greta Garbo and Joan Crawford who wore elaborate oversized citrine Art Deco jewellery pieces.
Some of the most recognised jewellery made using citrine was by Suzanne Belperron, who famously created intricate Citrine Pineapple Clip earrings, which sold for $63,600.
Citrine is one of the most affordable yet durable gemstones. Named from the French name for lemon,"citron," many citrines have a juicy lemon color. Citrine includes yellow to gold to orange-brown shades of transparent quartz. Although the darker, orange colors of citrine, sometimes called Madeira citrine after the color of the wine, has generally been the most valued color, in modern times, many people prefer the bright lemony shades which mix better with pastel colors. Citrine is generally more inexpensive than amethyst and is also available in a wide range of calibrated sizes and shapes, including very large sizes.
